Established in May 2021, the Africa Bioethics Network (ABN) emerged from a recognition that Africa needed a unified, professional platform to address critical bioethical challenges across the continent. Launched with the support of distinguished leaders including Prof. Evelyn Wagaiyu, Dean of the School of Medicine at the University of Nairobi, ABN has quickly grown into a vital force in African bioethics.
The African Bioethics Network (ABN) is a professional, non-political, and non-profit organization that unites multidisciplinary experts from across Africa. Our network includes specialists in healthcare, environmental science, policy development, technology, social sciences, and humanities, all committed to advancing bioethical practices and principles across the continent. The African Journal of Bioethics (AJB), an integral part of ABN, is a pioneering open-access publication dedicated to the critical and objective analysis of bioethical issues relevant to Africa. AJB serves as a platform for scholarly discourse, addressing pressing ethical challenges in healthcare, research, and public health across Africa. Through this publication, ABN provides a space for rigorous debate, fostering the ethical standards essential for responsible practice and research.
Africa Bioethics Network (ABN) is dedicated to increasing the understanding of bioethical issues. ABN provides access to resources, offers educational programs, and provides networking opportunities with the goal of improving the health and quality of life for individuals and across communities.
To become Africa’s leading platform for bioethical discourse and practice, ensuring that African perspectives and values are represented in global bioethics conversations while promoting excellence in research, healthcare, and policy development.
We aim to increase collaboration and the exchange of resources, information and ideas amongst us, which will ultimately address many of the ethical dilemmas faced in Africa in health; the environment and climate change; sustainability, justice, and responsibility; natural sciences; policy and governance; social sciences and humanities.
The Africa Bioethics Network (ABN) is committed to advancing ethical standards across Africa, addressing urgent issues in health, research, and technology.
