The African Journal of Bioethics (AJB) is a scholarly peer-reviewed journal that aims to encourage Pan-African harmonization in pertinent bioethical issues affecting Africa, enhance the standards of experimental and observational research ethics in the African continent and promote robust discussions on emerging bioethical issues. Participation in the peer-review process is absolutely essential to the success and reputation of the journal. Reviewers and editors determine which works are of quality and significance.
The Editorial team of the African Journal of Bioethics is seeking knowledgeable and conscientious peer reviewers who will provide fair and objective manuscript reviews with a quick turnaround time for feedback to authors. The role of these individuals is to independently review and critique manuscripts. Author-initiated manuscripts are subject to review by two or more independent reviewers. Reviewers are guided in their review with the use of a reviewer criteria, designed and tailored for each type of manuscript.
The AJB is registered under ISSN 2951-9853 and the Crossref DOI prefix 10.58177/.
AJB reviewers should have experience as authors of articles published in peer-reviewed journals. Individuals who have not yet published are invited to join as apprentice reviewers and will be paired with more experienced mentors. Knowledge and expertise in any of the following areas is essential:
✔ Bioethics
✔ Medical care ethics
✔ Health systems ethics
✔ Research ethics
✔ Sex and gender perspectives in bioethics
✔ Queer bioethics
✔ Human rights and human dignity in healthcare and research
✔ Ethical challenges in research and healthcare
✔ Ethics of healthcare and research with vulnerable populations
✔ Emerging issues in bioethics
✔ Bioethics and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Reviewers will be acknowledged on the AJB webpage and receive a certificate of appreciation. We also welcome research students to join the review process as this can be really helpful for their careers (providing experience for their own submissions in the future, experience to add to CVs, and may help to be invited to the Editorial Review Board in the future), so do consider this if you are a research student or pass on the information if you have research students yourself).
